In the spirit of Rosie the Riveter, an extraordinary women’s fundraising event was held on May 17 in our construction zone to fund our women’s homeless shelter. There were 110 women in attendance and our president, Rolf. The ladies flexed their power by raising over $125,000 to ensure homeless women in our community will have safe shelter for decades to come. All made possible by our board chair, Joyce McCullough, and Women’s Auxiliary president, Julie Willig.
We were delighted to be among the recipients of a gift of $100,000 from the Women’s Fund of Santa Barbara. This collective donor group, which enables women to combine their charitable giving into significant grants, made a meaningful gift to help with the essential improvements to our homeless women’s shelter. Campaign gifts such as this enable us to remain on schedule despite recent construction delays caused by fire and debris flows and the resulting closure of Highway 101.
“We are proud supporters of the Santa Barbara Rescue Mission,” said Shelley Hurst, Steering Chair of the Women’s Fund of Santa Barbara. “The work they do is critically important for our community. Through a recent grant from the Women’s Fund, we are excited to help the Rescue Mission increase their capacity to serve homeless women in need of emergency shelter.”
We will honor the women and men graduating from our 12-month Residential Treatment Program on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend and participate in this celebration.
The ceremony will be held at Montecito Covenant Church located at 671 Cold Spring Road, Santa Barbara. There will be a reception immediately following. For more information, please contact us at 805-966-1316.
