SANTA BARBARA, CA – Santa Barbara Rescue Mission has broken ground on the 40,000 square foot remodel of its facility located at 535 East Yanonali Street.
This project represents three years of planning, permitting, and initial fundraising to recreate a facility which will better serve as an anchor for services to the homeless and addicted in the community.
It all was possible because of our gracious donors.
In our history, 3 million meals and 1.6 million stays have been provided since 1986. After continuous use, every night, the Yanonali Street buildings were in desperate need of repair. Addressing significant social challenges of those struggling with homelessness and addiction, our team knew that the facility in its existing shape was inadequate to serve homeless guests and residents in 12-month recovery over the next 20 years.
The impact this facility will make for our mission:
- The shelter capacity will double
- Gender-specific bathroom and shower facilities will be provided to guests
- The remodel will still allow our programs to continue during the extensive remodel of each structural element of the facility
The Mission of Hope continues to be impacted by donors across the Santa Barbara region.
